GDR childrens’ song

When mummy goes to work early
Then I stay at home
I tie an apron round me
And do the dusting

I can’t do any cooking yet
I’ll end up getting hurt
But I usually get all the dirt
So mummy will not fret

I have a little dolly
That’s so dear and jolly
I can be the best mummy to it
And I can do that all by myself

-

Wenn Mutti früh zur Arbeit geht,
Dann bleibe ich zu Haus.
Ich binde eine Schürze um
Und feg die Stube aus.

Das Essen kochen kann ich nicht,
Dazu bin ich zu klein.
Doch Staub hab ich schon oft gewischt.
Wie wird sich Mutti freu’n!

Ich habe auch ein Puppenkind,
Das ist so lieb und fein.
Für dieses kann ich ganz allein
Die richt’ge Mutti sein.

The Belle Dame Sans Mercy

J.W. Waterhouse, La Belle Dame Sans Merci, 1893

The strong and beautiful femme fatale is a well-known figure in literature. A lover may pine to death as a result of her hardheartedness. A 14th century French poet by the name of Alan Chartier wrote the poem La Belle Dame Sans Mercy, which is the archetype of the Belle Dame genre.

The basic story is that of a sad poet who walks through the countryside. He accidentally comes across a feste where he observes a lover making pitiful advances to an unrivalled beauty. The lover eventually dies of heartache as the Belle Dame ignores his advances.

Privacy as it relates to photography

If you accept the path that respect for someone’s feelings is paramount, then you accept that suppression is the norm and we fight over what’s offensive. Free speech does involve hurt, but there’s nothing wrong with that. A free society does not legislate on the realm of beliefs or sensibilities. If it did, the state’s powers would extend to thought control. A sci-fi dystopia like Orwell’s 1984.

Twitter and freedom of expression

The limitation to our freedom of expression is the paradoxical outcome to the growth of our freedom. When freedom of expression grows large enough, we seek to control it more.
